How to Measure Penis Length

Every man measures his penis at least once in his life, though fewer than that are willing to admit to it. But where do you measure? The top? The bottom? When you're erect? Unerect?

There are a lot of details, and we've got the answers.

Also, if you're interested in measuring your penis girth, it's a pretty similar process.

Why Measure Penis Length?

Most people are coming here looking to measure their penis length for bragging rights in the locker room, or just out of curiosity. But there's actually a good, practical reason to measure your penis length, which is to find a condom that fits you well.

Penises come in all different shapes and sizes and so do condoms. So while the bragging rights are fun, consider using this information to find a condom that really fits well.

What to use to Measure Penis Length

the best tool for measuring your penis is a measuring tape

You can use a lot of different things to measure your penis length, but you're going to need a ruler of some kind if you want an exact number.

The best possible thing you can use is a measuring tape (check out the picture to the right). These are popular with tailors or people who do any sewing.

Outside of that, any ruler will do. You can use the ruler itself, or measure how long your penis is with a piece of string or something similar, mark how long your penis is on the string, and then measure the string. You can even measure with a couple pieces of toilet paper, and make a small tear in the toilet paper to mark the tip.

If you don't have a ruler, here are some common objects you might have around the house to compare your penis length to:

  • US Dollar Bill: 6.14 inches
  • Bank Check: 6 inches
  • 3 x 5 Index Card: 5 inches x 3 inches
  • Cd / DVD Diameter (from center to outer edge): 4.72 inches
  • Playing Card: 3.5 inches
  • Credit Card: 3.37 inches x 2.125 inches (two credit cards stacked would be 4.25 inches)

How to Measure Penis Length

Now that you have something to measure with, the actual measuring isn't too hard.

Step 1 is to get fully erect. I'll leave this part up to you. Hopefully you have some idea how to achieve that 😉.

Once you're fully erect, you take your measuring device and lay it flat against your abdomen, on top of your penis. Your measuring device should be pushed down (lightly) in to the spot where your penis shaft joins your body.

From there, you measure to the tip. If your penis is not totally straight it can be helpful here to have something like a piece of string or the measuring tape to take any bends in to account. We don't want to miss out on anything!

Congradulations, now you know how long your penis is.

How Does Your Penis Length Compare to Average?

The first thing any guy wants to know after finding out how long his penis is, is how long everyone else's penis is, and where he fits in.

Well, we've got you covered. We have a page on what the average penis length is, and we've got another page on what the ideal penis length is (according to women). Finally, we've also got a handy penis size calculator, where you can plug in your penis length (and girth) to see how exactly you compare to all the other penises out there.
